Review:
I have read quite a few books by Amanda Hocking, including the Trylle Trilogy and the first book in the Hollows series and I have enjoyed every one.

This book was no different to me. Aimed at young adults it’s easy to read and I couldn’t put it down, managing to read it in one sitting. The characters are very likeable. Gemma is a 16 year old girl who is desperate to compete in the olympics in a few years time. She is dedicated to her swimming and spends her evenings swimming and floating in the ocean. She just can’t get enough of the water! Harper is Gemma’s older sister and almost like a mother to Gemma after their own mother is in a home following a serious car accident many years ago. Harper is very sensible and tries to keep Gemma from making mistakes. She doesn’t like Gemma going on these late night trips to the ocean especially as there appears to be a serial killer on the loose.

Within the book, you also have two love interests for the two sisters. Alex is Harper’s best friend and lives next door. Gemma has had no interest in him until recently when he has seemed to grown into his looks. Daniel is someone that Harper keeps bumping into at the docks when looking for her father, and at first she doesn’t like him but slowly she starts to let down the wall she has built around her and he is the first person she turns to when she needs help.

This was a great book and I absolutely loved the mermaid / siren element of the book. These days a lot of fantasy books involve vampires so this made a nice change. The end of the book made me want to immediately read the second book to see what happens next, so I can’t wait until I can read the next one!
